The independent welfare changes Helpline has seen an increase in calls from clients who have due to their vulnerability, inadvertently made a claim for Universal Credit which was not in their best interests.
On Friday 9th December, Advice NI, Rural Support and The Ulster Farmers Union launched a Report entitled ‘Universal Credit in Northern Ireland: Punishing the Self-Employed’ expressing their collective concern over the impact that Universal Credit will have on self-employed people.
Advice NI, the independent advice network, today cautiously welcomed some elements of the chancellor’s Autumn Statement, but highlighted its continued worries about cuts to Universal Credit, the impact of the 4 year freeze to most Working Age benefits and planned further cuts to Sickness benefits.
