As children across Northern Ireland return to school in the coming weeks, Advice NI is urging people to seek advice as many struggles to cope with the triple whammy of additional costs of summer holidays, the Cost of Living crisis, and the increasing costs of school uniforms.
People on the lowest incomes – both in and out of work – have endured a decade of austerity; with freezes and cuts to social security benefits and in-work support; hollowing out support, undermining resilience and ability to cope with adversity.
The first instalment of the Cost of Living Support Payment for those on means-tested benefits has been issued to those eligible in NI from, 20th July 2022.
The inspirational speaker series has been running for over a year now and in that time, speakers have presented on a variety of topics including debt and money, poverty and fuel poverty, universal basic income, and the real living wage.
Advice NI has a briefing in the pipeline relating to the cost of living measures announced by the Chancellor, but as not all of the detail is currently available it may be a few weeks before it is quite at the stage to publish. However, we are conscious that many of you will be getting queries now about payments that are due to start going out in mid-July.
